she's a fucking bombshell... DUH!

I've changed my layout slightly - keeping the formatting of the blog the same for the most part. I've added a thick, black border where the links to my other pages are located as well as a few minor changes to the side bar (... and some other things). I'll currently be posting somewhat sporadically until things are ready but I'm now hoping to be fully up and running sooner rather than later.
Suggestions and critiques regarding the new layout/direction would be greatly appreciated.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I posted a few of these on my tumblr and might as well share them here....

Cameron Diaz in all her blonde, leggy glory shot by Terry Richardson for Esquire Magazine.

You're Welcome
& Enjoy

So, yeah, if you weren't aware/happened to be living under a rock...
Cameron's a fucking bombshell... duh.

I can't believe this woman is forty, un-fucking-believeable-forty. I also love how she publicly admits her love for weed... how chill would it be to spark up a joint with her? Yeah, think about it.

I rest my case.

Stay tuned for mini updates and make sure to check out Terry Richardsons Diary.

The Bitch in Black Goes To Rehab...

The Bitch in Black has been very sick... - not me, Alix Kat - the blog itself and it's time for The Bitch in Black to go to rehab.

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I keep trying to create and operate blogs that will 'work' (or whatever other bullshit expectation I set for myself) and then life keeps happening and completely throws me off of any expectations or goals I may have had... I'm kind of distracted, like, really easily and I seem to accidentally draw to myself to chaos... and sometimes it's only the chaos in my head, either way...
Welcome to Procrastination Nation.

So for starters I'm contemplating moving all of the current blog entries I have on The Bitch in Black onto one of my old 'archive' blogs and just starting The Bitch in Black completely anew.

[begin personal rant/revelations] I've got a lot of 'construction' to do on this site and I keep thinking about how badly I want it to work... but this time I need to not care if it to 'works' up to my expectations, this time I just want it to make me happy and I want to make any and all readers I have happy.
I want to help provide beauty, style and self love tips, music/movie/television reviews and interesting worldly and pop culture stories. I want to provide people generally interesting articles from a radical girls point of view... but ultimately this time it's for me - to write what I want to write about, post what I want to post, not give a damn about how many 'hits' I receive and let go of all the expectations of internet blogging that I've always had. It's time to finally let go and just write. [end personal rant/revelations]

Naturally The Bitch in Black will be on hiatus... or rather continue the hiatus I have been on and off of since day one. I need some time to figure out a strategy and plan with no expectations whatsoever. I know any of the few readers I have left have probably found this whole post quite boring but my first step is to address the current issues of me, my blogging (and inconsistency), the blog in itself as well as working on a direction and plan - so please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns or critiques via alixdaignault@me.com.

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

The Bitch in Black blog will basically be going under the knife for a bit of cosmetic surgery and some severe therapy to figure itself out... I'm giving an estimate of 2-4 weeks for the grand reveal but will be making some (probably infrequent) updates in the mean time.

I've become very active again on my tumblr @ tatteredtights.tumblr so feel free to check that out as well as becoming active on twitter again so follow me @alixdaignault

Burning Birkins, Bitch.

I've been moving this past week so sorry for the lack of posts, or whatever. Anyway, a while ago I decided Francesca Eastwood is fucking cool. I found out there's this new show called Mrs. Eastwood and Company that I figured was about Clint Eastwoods family... and it is. But I haven't seen it and probably won't - but this is all irrelevant. There's been some crazy controversy around something Francesca and her photographer bf Tyler Shields did that I heard was aired on the show this week (or talked about, or something?)

The 'something controversial' in question was this photo series;

BIRKIN
"For the people who don’t know a Birkin is the most sought after bag in the entire world there is a waiting list and some of them can run upwards of $100,000. This is the red Crocodile Birkin VS the red $200 chainsaw and 4 dollars of gasoline!"

THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME.
I know people everywhere are up in arms that someone could 'waste' 100K on a handbag. What I think is interesting is that I do think art is based a lot on however you choose to interpret it - maybe this is art, maybe it's not - but I would like to know why everyone is getting upset that someone 'wasted' money destroying a Birkin to make a statement when there are tons of people carrying 100K handbags for vanity or self-worth? Is that not also, to some degree wasting money? Shouldn't those people also be chastised for wasting their money on a handbag rather than helping the homeless/hungry? There is nothing controversial here - to me, this is far less offensive than the Kardashians toting around brand new Birkins every week! Honestly, if Francesca was spotted simply carrying this bag, no one would give two shits about the 100K she spent for vanity purposes instead of giving the money to the homeless/hungry.
The fact that a handbag can cost more than a mortgage is a problem. People spending that kind of money on handbags (and other material items) everyday is a problem. But it's still their money and what they choose to do with those handbags (or any other material item) is an irrelevant by-product.
I bet at some point 90% of people have purchased something for material purposes with money that could have fed a homeless person dinner - I know I have, we're all guilty. Is is right? Certainly not. Should we be more aware of the things around us? Absolutely. By no means am I saying no one cares or helps out when they can but a lot of us have had moments where that gorgeous new dress or hi-def television was exactly what we wanted and we worked hard, so dammit, we deserve it. A lot of people may not agree with what was done to the Birkin but unless you've never spent a selfish penny or you're a huge philanthropist doing a shit ton of work to help with the poverty then be my guest and criticize but don't cast stones while living in a glass house.
No one cares that she spent 100K on a handbag they care that she destroyed a handbag worth 100K... and that's the problem.
Whatever, I think the photo set is fucking rad.

Anyway, after seeing this series I had to check out more of his work; here's some of my favorite stuff.

Advanced Style

Advanced Style is Ari Seth Cohen’s blog-based ode to the confidence, beauty, and fashion that can only be achieved through the experience of a life lived glamorously. It is a collection of street fashion unlike any seen before—focused on the over-60 set in the world’s most stylish locales. The (mostly) ladies of Advanced Style are enjoying their later years with grace and panache, marching to the beat of their own drummer. These timeless images and words of wisdom provide fashion inspiration for all ages and prove that age is nothing but a state of mind.

Ari Seth Cohen started his blog inspired by his own grandmother’s unique personal style and his lifelong interest in the put-together fashion of vibrant seniors. Each of his subjects sparkles like a diamond after long years spent refining and perfecting their individual look and approach to life. The Advanced Style book will showcase, in luscious full-color, the best of the blog, but will also act as a true guidebook with all-new material featuring wardrobes, interviews, stories, and advice from a cadre of his most chic subjects, along with a large selection of never-before-seen photography—fresh off of sidewalk catwalks around the world! - Advanced Style @ Amazon

THIS. This is the next book I plan to add to my vastly growing collection of fashion books (Taschen 100 Contemporary Fashion Designers is a must have!). The book has stemmed from a blog, which I came across courtesy of my other blog obsession (www.babewalker.com) and it's safe to say I've found my next obsession...

Graphic Designer, Christine Kohler

The Countess of Glamour: Lynn Dell

Joyce Carpati

The absolutely fabulous Carola

These women inspire me more than anyone in their respective 20's - 50's. These ladies have taken years to find and perfect their own individual styles and they are nothing less than abso-fucking-lutely fabulous. Along with Advanced Style being a regular 'street-style' blog featuring the over 60 crowd, it also has some great sub-sections including The Countess of Glamour Speaks, dedicated to the fabulous Lynn Dell (pictured above).

One of my favorite sections has to be Ilona Smithkin: Wisdom From A 90 Year Old Lady who is so, so incredibly inspiring. She says some of the greatest things I've ever heard, like this:

and this....

Ilona has a more optimistic view on life than 99.9% of the people my age, including myself, that I know. I strongly suggest going and checking out all of the videos posted of Ilona on Advanced Style, as well as browsing around and seeing how creative, fabulous and lovely all the ladies featured are. Take what these women have to say to heart, they've had the time to learn and love life. I really appreciate their willingness to share their wisdom and refined (albeit sometimes eccentric) personal styles.

Check out the site, buy the book and TRUST because these women know their shit.

#WhiteGirlProblems

Have White Girl Problems? Probably not but it's fun to complain about bullshit... If you've heard of that "FirstWorldProblems" trend, you probably get the idea, except having a white girl problem makes you one billion times more cool.

I'm not even sure when or where I came across the whitegrlproblem twitter account - that has over 700,000 followers and you should be one of them. I'm assuming through the #whitegirlproblem hashtag she and many others use to identify their bullshit complaints. Enter Babe Walker, the girl who runs the twitter account. On top of the twitter account she also has an ingenious blog of the same name, White Girl Problems , that discusses a variety of topics - including her 'Ask Babe' section where she gives 'advice' to other rich bitches (and bros). She has been described by TIME magazine as 'the epitome of the urban socialite you love to hate' and has a New York Times best selling book also by the same name

Unfortunately I haven't had the time to read it yet, but I have read the available online chapters (www.babewalker.com). Here's a little something from White Girl Problem #21: Every Job I've Had is The Worst Job I've Had for you to love....

This Babe Walker has got to be a joke right?!

Well, kind of but not really Babe Walker is, in fact, a character made up by these people:

(L to R) Tanner Cohen, David Oliver Cohen and Laura Schoenhals are the brilliant minds behind Babe Walker and White Girl Problems. The article over at The Daily Mail  (where I also got that photo above) states "Television actors and brothers Tanner, 25, and David Oliver Cohen, 31, along with their friend, Lara Schoenhals, 27, were inspired by modern day celebrities who they feel are out of touch with reality. Speaking about the idea for Babe Walker, the only female member of the creative trio told The Daily Beast: '[It] is a culmination of this moment in pop culture that celebrates women who have a lot of money, a lot of shit to bitch about - but no real reason to be unhappy.'" Another article I read says the character took a lot of components from the likes of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian.

"Over the course of a meal with Schoenhals and the Cohen brothers, “Babe” is talked about not only as if she were a real person—she’s referred to as the fourth friend in their clique who simply couldn’t make it to lunch. “She’d be eating at that table,” Schoenhals says. “Her back would be turned to us, and she would get the butter lettuce and tomato salad—no croutons, no shallots, no vinaigrette. One tomato.” (Authors On Babe Walker) and to me, she will always be Babe Walker, definitely someone who you'll want to follow... the bitch you'll love to hate.

And until you become as obsessed with her as I am... here's a video of Babe at the Chris Benz Spring 2012 fashion show for you to love and enjoy.

Have a kickass week Bitches and Bros. Namaste.
